Apple and Xiaomi to Implement Staggered Launches for Flagship Models

In a significant shift, Apple and Xiaomi are set to adopt staggered release schedules for their flagship smartphones. This change comes as both companies face production challenges, particularly with the new Apple A20 processor, which has delayed the launch of base models.

Apple plans to unveil its next lineup in September 2026, but only premium versions will be available initially. Consumers will have the option to choose from three high-end models: the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable flagship known as the iPhone Ultra.

The standard iPhone 18 is expected to be delayed until spring 2027 due to the complexities involved in manufacturing the new processor. The A20 chip, produced using advanced 2-nanometer technology, is currently in limited supply, prompting Apple to prioritize its premium devices for the initial launch.

Following Apple’s lead, Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi will also stagger the release of its Xiaomi 18 series. The company plans to first launch the higher-end Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Ultra models to compete effectively with Apple’s Pro line.

This shift has led Xiaomi to adjust its schedule for other devices, with the announcement of the interim Xiaomi 17T series now set for May 28, nearly four months earlier than usual.

Industry analysts predict that other major players like Samsung and Google may soon adopt similar staggered release strategies. This trend reflects a broader practice in the Android market, where manufacturers often emulate Apple’s sales tactics and design aesthetics.

For instance, following the launch of the iPhone 17 Pro in the striking Cosmic Orange color, many other brands quickly released their models in similar shades. Currently, manufacturers are preparing new red flagship devices in anticipation of the rumored Dark Cherry color for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro.

Insiders suggest that this new approach to product launches will help manufacturers mitigate supply chain issues and enhance the marketing of each model individually.

Apple and Xiaomi are shifting to staggered launches for their flagship smartphones, prioritizing premium models due to production challenges with new processors. This strategy may soon be adopted by other major brands in the industry.
