Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Reported Over Tambov Region Amid Ongoing Attacks on Oil Infrastructure

In the early hours of April 26, unusual drone activity was reported in the Tambov region of Russia, particularly over the city of Michurinsk. Local residents noted explosions and the activation of air defense systems, while a fire was observed outside the city.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the cause of the fire or any potential damage resulting from the incidents.

The area is home to the Nikolskoye Linear Production Dispatch Station (LPDS), a key facility in the pipeline transportation system for oil products. This station is responsible for the pumping and dispatching of oil flows, receiving products from adjacent LPDS and refineries in Central Russia via the Druzhba pipeline. It subsequently distributes these products to domestic markets and export routes through Belarus.

It is important to note that Ukrainian forces have been systematically targeting Russian oil infrastructure. Between late March and early April 2026, drones struck several refineries in Kirishi, Yaroslavl, Saratov, Ufa, and Novokuybyshevsk, as well as terminals in Primorsk, Ust-Luga, and Tuapse.

On April 21, drones operated by the Security Service of Ukraine attacked the Samara LPDS, damaging five oil storage tanks. The following night, drones targeted the Syzran refinery.

A fire at the Tuapse refinery has been ongoing for five days, and the Nikolskoye LPDS in the Tambov region was also recently affected.

Drone activity in the Tambov region of Russia has raised concerns following reports of explosions and a fire. This incident occurs amidst a series of targeted attacks on Russian oil infrastructure by Ukrainian forces, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.
