Ukrainian Forces Utilize Drones in Successful Operation Against Russian Occupants

Ukrainian military unit “Lava” from the 2nd Corps of the National Guard has successfully executed an operation to eliminate a group of Russian soldiers who had entrenched themselves in a building in Kupiansk. This operation showcased the effective use of advanced drone technology in modern warfare.

During the mission, Ukrainian forces deployed various types of drones, including armed unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with grenade launchers and explosive-laden kamikaze drones. The operation resulted in the destruction of the Russian stronghold, the elimination of personnel, and the neutralization of an ammunition depot.

Notably, no soldiers were directly involved on the battlefield during this operation. The success was attributed to the coordinated efforts of numerous military specialists, including planners, scouts, operators, engineers, and communications personnel from the “Hartiya” unit.

“Hartiya” and “Lava” continue to demonstrate a new quality in the Ukrainian military—technological, intelligent, and based on efficiency, planning, and preparation.

The “Lava” battalion was established in September 2025 as the first robotic unit of the 2nd Corps, later expanding to a regiment in April 2026. This high-tech unit operates various drone types, including multirotors, fixed-wing aircraft, reconnaissance, and combat drones, as well as ground robotic complexes.

In parallel, the regiment is advancing its research and development initiatives by adapting ground robotic complexes for various logistical missions, integrating artificial intelligence into drone operations, and developing combat applications for their use.

The Ukrainian military's "Lava" unit executed a successful drone operation against Russian forces in Kupiansk, highlighting advancements in military technology and strategy. This operation, which involved no direct combat personnel, underscores the growing role of drones in modern warfare.
