Recent strikes by Ukrainian defense forces on Russian military logistics in southern Ukraine have reportedly halved the enemy’s offensive capabilities. This has led to an increased reliance on aerial operations by Russian forces, according to statements made by Vladislav Voloshin, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, during a televised briefing.
Voloshin indicated that the Ukrainian military is focusing on disrupting logistical routes, which significantly affects the readiness and supply of Russian troops. He noted a marked decrease in the number of assault operations, with recent reports indicating a drop from over 50 assaults to half that number within a few days.
Despite the reduction in ground assaults, Voloshin highlighted that the frequency of drone strikes and artillery bombardments by Russian forces has not diminished. He explained that logistical challenges are prompting Russian forces to increase their use of aviation, as they seek to compensate for the reduced effectiveness of their artillery.
“The enemy has started to employ aviation more frequently due to specific logistical issues,” Voloshin stated. He elaborated that as artillery resources dwindle, the use of guided aerial bombs has risen.
Voloshin also suggested that the decrease in Russian combat activity could be linked to the accumulation of their forces and resources, alongside the ongoing strikes on logistics in the south. This includes not only the Chonhar Bridge but also other critical infrastructure such as bridges on the North Crimean Canal.
Control over the R-208 highway, referred to by Russians as ‘Novorossiya,’ is also crucial. This has forced Russian forces to resort to secondary routes that are longer and less efficient, further complicating their logistics.
On June 7, Ukrainian forces targeted the Chonhar Bridge, which connects occupied Kherson with Crimea. Following the attack, traffic was briefly restored in a limited capacity. However, on June 9, drone strikes led to a complete suspension of movement across the bridge, prompting Russian authorities to suggest alternative routes through Armyansk and Perekop.
Subsequent reports indicated that the Chonhar Bridge was entirely destroyed after multiple drone strikes. Additionally, on June 10, another critical bridge between Henichesk and the Arabat Spit was closed, marking the second significant disruption of Russian supply routes in recent days.
Explosions were also reported in Crimea on the night of June 11, with local channels noting fires in Simferopol and Sevastopol, as well as damage to bridges at land entry points.
For further details on the strategic importance of the Chonhar Bridge and its implications for Russian operations, additional coverage is available.
Ukrainian strikes on Russian logistics have significantly reduced enemy offensive capabilities, leading to increased reliance on aerial operations. The disruption of key supply routes, including the Chonhar Bridge, has further complicated Russian military logistics.
