On June 3, Ukrainian forces launched a series of drone strikes deep within Russian territory, including an attack on an oil terminal in Saint Petersburg, as confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff and Security Service. This incident coincided with the opening of an economic forum in the city.
Satellite imagery from Planet Labs, dated June 3, reveals a significant fire at the terminal, accompanied by a plume of black smoke rising from the site. The attack is part of a broader strategy by Ukrainian forces to undermine Russian military capabilities.
In addition to the oil terminal, the Ukrainian strikes targeted the Kronstadt Marine Plant in Kronstadt, a port city near Saint Petersburg that houses a Russian Navy base. Reports indicate that the corvette “Boyky” was also struck during these operations.
Another location affected was the Progress factory in Michurinsk, Tambov region, known for manufacturing components for Russian missiles. The Ukrainian military aims to systematically reduce the combat potential of Russian occupying forces, as stated by their General Staff.
While Ukrainian officials have confirmed these attacks, Russian authorities have not acknowledged any damage to the targeted facilities. Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, various sites within Russia and Russian-occupied territories in Ukraine have been subjected to aerial strikes, reflecting the ongoing conflict’s escalation.
