The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported a drone strike on a Russian oil pumping station located in Perm, over 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine. The attack resulted in a significant fire, with nearly all oil storage tanks reportedly ablaze.
According to the SBU, the facility is owned by Transneft and serves as a crucial hub in Russia’s main oil transportation system, distributing oil in four directions, including to the Perm Oil Refinery.
“The SBU is systematically reducing Russia’s export capacity and undermining the economic foundation that finances its war against Ukraine,” stated Yevhenii Khmara, the acting head of the SBU.
In Perm, local officials confirmed the drone attack, with images and videos circulating on social media showing a large plume of smoke near the city. Dmitry Mahonin, the governor of the Perm Krai, noted that the drone struck an industrial site within the municipal district, leading to a fire. He added that workers were evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that overnight, 98 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed over seven regions, though Perm Krai was not mentioned among the affected areas.
Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, various sites within Russia have been targeted by airstrikes, with oil refineries frequently becoming the focus of attacks in 2024 and 2025. Ukrainian forces have also targeted Russian facilities in occupied territories.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed most of these attacks, stating that Ukrainian defense forces are actively working to diminish the combat capabilities of Russian occupation troops and compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.
