Ukraine Reports Significant Russian Military Losses Amid Ongoing Conflict

As of April 25, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian military losses since the onset of the full-scale invasion have reached approximately 1,324,690 personnel, with 1,230 casualties recorded in the past day alone.

In addition to personnel losses, the Ukrainian military has detailed significant losses in Russian military equipment, including:

  • 11,892 tanks
  • 24,458 armored fighting vehicles (an increase of 13)
  • 40,635 artillery systems (an increase of 29)
  • 1,753 multiple launch rocket systems
  • 1,353 anti-aircraft systems
  • 435 aircraft
  • 350 helicopters
  • 255,862 operational-tactical drones (an increase of 1,257)
  • 4,549 cruise missiles
  • 33 ships and boats
  • 2 submarines
  • 91,422 vehicles and fuel tankers (an increase of 166)
  • 4,136 special equipment units (an increase of 2)

Russia has not officially disclosed its military losses. The last public figure provided by Moscow was in September 2022, when the number of reported fatalities was 5,937.

In a separate investigation, journalists from the BBC Russian Service and Mediazona, working with volunteer teams, confirmed the identities of at least 212,188 Russian servicemen who have died in the conflict since February 2022, based on information from open sources.

Estimates of total Russian losses, including both wounded and killed, from international organizations and intelligence agencies are significantly higher. In December 2025, a NATO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated to the BBC Russian Service that the total number of Russian military personnel killed and wounded could approach 1.15 million.

Ukraine has also refrained from disclosing its military losses for an extended period, stating that such information would be released after the conclusion of the war. However, President Volodymyr Zelensky has begun to share updates approximately once a year. In an interview with France 2 in early February 2026, he stated that Ukraine has lost 55,000 soldiers since February 2022, adding that there are also a significant number of individuals considered missing.

On January 13, 2026, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, noted that in 2025, the Ukrainian military managed to reduce personnel losses by 13%. Specific details regarding Ukrainian casualties were not provided.

The General Staff of Ukraine reports that Russian military losses have reached approximately 1.32 million personnel since the invasion began. Additionally, significant losses in military equipment have been recorded, while estimates of total casualties remain higher from international sources.
