Ukraine Faces Massive Russian Drone Assault Amid U.S. Presidential Visit to China

On May 13, Ukraine experienced one of the most extensive drone attacks from Russia, coinciding with U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to China. This timing has raised concerns about the motivations behind the assault.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the attack appears to be a deliberate attempt by the Russian government to disrupt international political dynamics and draw attention to its actions at the expense of Ukrainian lives and infrastructure.

Throughout the day, waves of Iranian-made Shahed drones were launched against various regions in Ukraine, particularly targeting areas close to NATO borders. Zelenskyy reported that over 800 drones had been deployed since the start of the day, with the assault ongoing and strikes occurring in multiple provinces.

The consequences of the attack have been severe, with reports indicating dozens of injuries, including children, and at least six fatalities. The situation continues to develop as Ukrainian forces respond to the ongoing threat.

Ukraine is enduring a significant drone assault from Russia, which coincides with a high-profile visit by U.S. President Trump to China. The attack has resulted in multiple casualties and highlights the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
