Ukraine Displays Russian Missile Components to European Officials Following Recent Attacks

Ukrainian officials presented details of Russian missile systems, including the Zircon, Kalibr, and X-101, to representatives from European nations following a significant attack on May 24. The presentation, held at the Office of the President of Ukraine, highlighted components sourced from various countries, including Switzerland, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and China, many of which were manufactured in 2023.

According to the Office of the President’s press service, European diplomats were also shown circuit boards from the Oreshnik missile system that contained exclusively Russian and Belarusian components produced between 2004 and 2014. Vladislav Vlasuk, the President’s representative for sanctions policy, emphasized the need to halt the supply of parts to Russia, stating that this would significantly impact the capabilities of Russian defense production.

Vlasuk further pointed out the importance of monitoring Belarus’s access to foreign electronics, noting that some components used in the Russian missiles were manufactured at the Minsk-based factory, Integral, including microchips and circuit boards for cruise missiles and the Oreshnik system.

Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, urged European representatives to enhance existing sanctions and expedite the development of new sanctions packages. This call for action comes in response to a mass attack by Russian forces on Ukraine, which occurred overnight on May 24.

During this assault, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian troops launched approximately 600 drones of various types and 90 missiles from air, sea, and ground platforms, primarily targeting Kyiv. The city of Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region was also struck by the Oreshnik missile system.

The attack resulted in the deaths of three individuals in Kyiv, with 91 others reported injured. Damage assessments indicated impacts at 49 locations across several districts, including Shevchenkivskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, and Holosiivskyi.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the assault caused extensive damage to residential buildings, shopping centers, educational institutions, a market, and administrative buildings belonging to the State Emergency Service and police. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that around 30 residential buildings were either damaged or destroyed in Kyiv.

In a statement, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for the extensive drone and missile strikes, including the use of Oreshnik ballistic missiles, targeting military command facilities, air bases, and enterprises within Ukraine’s defense industry.

Ukrainian officials have showcased components of Russian missile systems to European diplomats, emphasizing the need for stricter sanctions against Russia. The presentation follows a significant attack on Ukraine that resulted in casualties and extensive damage, particularly in Kyiv.
