Ukraine Advocates Comprehensive Strategy to Diminish Russian Aggression

The Ukrainian government is advocating for a multifaceted approach aimed at undermining Russia’s capacity to sustain its military operations in Ukraine. According to the Foreign Minister, this strategy involves intensifying pressure on Russia across military, economic, political, and technological dimensions.

He emphasized that the key to compelling President Putin to cease hostilities lies in depriving him of the resources necessary for continued aggression. This includes implementing long-range sanctions targeting Russian assets, conducting strikes on intermediate objectives, and working towards the logistical isolation of occupying forces.

Additionally, the Foreign Minister called on international allies to bolster their efforts in applying pressure on Russia in all these areas. He stated, “We need to suffocate the Russian military machine, cut off its funding, and dispel any illusions Putin may have about achieving his objectives on the battlefield.”

He believes that accumulating a critical mass of such actions could lead to significant changes and compel Russia to reassess its policies. “Together, we can strip the Putin regime of its lifeblood and leave it with no option but to end the war. But action must be taken now, not later,” he concluded.

In June, European Union leaders agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia for an additional 12 months. This marked the first instance of sanctions being renewed for a year, as previous extensions had occurred every six months.

European officials noted that this decision aims to reduce the risk of political disputes surrounding the sanctions regime. In recent years, the renewal of sanctions has frequently been complicated by threats from certain EU countries to block or delay such measures.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister outlines a comprehensive strategy to weaken Russia's military capabilities, urging international partners to intensify sanctions and logistical isolation. The EU has also committed to extending sanctions against Russia for a year to avoid political disputes.
