The U.S. Secretary of State has reiterated the country’s commitment to facilitating diplomatic negotiations aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Despite prolonged efforts, he acknowledged that these initiatives have yet to yield the desired outcomes.
He expressed disappointment that neither party, particularly Russia, has shown a willingness to make the necessary concessions for peace. “Unfortunately, up to this point, neither side has demonstrated the readiness to compromise that is essential for establishing peace,” he stated.
The Secretary emphasized that Washington does not view a military solution as viable, asserting that the conflict can only be resolved through diplomatic means. “We remain prepared to play any role we can in this context of establishing peace, as we believe that the destructive war in Ukraine has no military resolution,” he added.
Furthermore, he clarified that the United States is not a neutral mediator in the conflict. Washington continues to supply arms to Ukraine and maintains sanctions against Russia. “We do not supply weapons to Russia. We only provide arms to Ukraine. We do not impose sanctions on Ukraine; we impose sanctions solely on Russia. Thus, we have clearly chosen a side,” he emphasized.
Additionally, the Secretary noted that U.S. support for Ukraine persists through the PURL program, regardless of other international events or conflicts.
Currently, he indicated that there are no signs suggesting that either side is prepared to make the necessary compromises for a peace agreement. “At this moment, the prospects do not appear very optimistic that either side is willing to make the necessary concessions to reach an agreement,” he remarked.
Nonetheless, Washington remains open to engaging in any diplomatic initiatives that could help bring an end to the war. “We are ready to intervene and play any positive role we can to put an end to this escalating destructive war,” the U.S. Secretary of State concluded.
The U.S. Secretary of State has confirmed ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, while acknowledging a lack of willingness from both sides to compromise. Washington remains committed to supporting Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia.
