Russian Missile System Deployed Near Belarus-Russia Border

Belarusian opposition groups have reported the deployment of Russia’s latest missile system, the “Oreshnik,” at an abandoned airbase in the Mogilev region, located just four kilometers from the Russian border.

According to the “Belarusian Railway Workers Community,” components of this medium-range missile system are stationed at the Krychev-6 airfield, which is officially designated as a logistics center.

The opposition claims that a significant military train arrived at the airbase between December 20 and 29. The destination station was Krychev I, part of the Mogilev branch of the Belarusian railway. This train originated from Kapustin Yar on the Privolzhskaya railway in Russia, known for its missile testing range.

The choice of Krychev I as the destination is strategic, as it is the nearest railway point to the airbase. The train was dispatched by military unit 15644, which is associated with the 4th State Central Inter-Service Range of Russia.

The cargo was received by the Military Transport Administration of the Belarusian Armed Forces, which managed the logistics for the operation.

Opposition sources have identified dozens of railcars transporting not only military equipment but also ammunition. The composition of the train included:

  • 54 flatcars with military vehicles;
  • 6 boxcars with supplies;
  • 1 boxcar containing explosives and ammunition;
  • passenger cars with personnel.

The cargo was classified under a code for other unspecified goods, a common practice to mask secret shipments.

As of May 2026, the military equipment remains at the site, with no recorded returns. The military contingent continues to be stationed at Krychev-6.

U.S. intelligence has also indicated that the “Oreshnik” system is located at this airfield, and it is reportedly operated exclusively by Russian personnel. Belarusian military forces are not permitted near the missile system, with their role limited to perimeter security and logistical support.

Reports indicate that a Russian missile system has been deployed at an airbase in Belarus, with U.S. intelligence confirming its operation by Russian personnel. The logistics of this deployment have raised concerns about military activities near the Belarus-Russia border.
