In the early hours of May 29, Russian military forces launched an attack on a bioenergy power plant located in Ivankiv, Kyiv Oblast, resulting in partial destruction of the facility.
The attack has drawn attention to the significant investments made in the plant, which amounted to $40 million. This facility, one of the largest biofuel power plants in Eastern Europe, has played a crucial role in the local economy by providing over 400 jobs.
According to Oleksiy Butenko, the founder of Biogazenergo, the company responsible for the plant’s construction in 2016, the assault has caused considerable damage. He stated, “This morning, Russian aggressors attacked and partially destroyed the power station in Ivankiv, which my company built in 2016.”
Butenko emphasized that the project was developed in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, highlighting its importance not only as an industrial facility but also as a significant community asset. He remarked, “For me, this is not just an industrial object; it is a part of life, built with the efforts of hundreds of people.”
Despite the destruction, Butenko expressed determination to continue operations and development. He stated, “Russian aggressors may damage our enterprises. They can destroy buildings and infrastructure, but they cannot destroy our will.” He further assured that the company plans to restore the damaged power plant, adding, “We will restore what has been damaged and become even stronger.”
A Russian attack on a bioenergy power plant in Ivankiv has resulted in partial destruction, impacting local employment and significant investments. The founder of the plant remains committed to its restoration and continued operation.
