Russian Attacks Claim Lives in Ukrainian Cities Amid Escalating Violence

On the evening of May 5, Russian forces launched a series of attacks targeting civilian areas in Ukraine, resulting in significant casualties in Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kramatorsk. The assaults left at least 21 people dead and many more injured.

The attacks began around 4:10 PM in Zaporizhzhia, where guided bombs struck civilian infrastructure, igniting fires in vehicles, a store, and a business. Initial reports indicated that 12 people lost their lives, with 39 others sustaining injuries, including both young and elderly individuals.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that seven of the injured were hospitalized following the assault in Zaporizhzhia. He condemned the attack as a “cynical, senseless act of terrorism” that continues to plague Ukrainian cities daily. In response to the tragedy, May 6 has been declared a day of mourning in the city.

Shortly after the Zaporizhzhia attack, Kramatorsk was targeted around 5:00 PM. Russian forces released three bombs in the city center, damaging 16 apartment buildings and two public institutions. Emergency services, including police and medical teams, quickly responded to the scene. As of 10:02 PM, six fatalities had been confirmed, with victims aged between 42 and 68 years old, and 13 others injured.

The violence did not stop there; at approximately 7:50 PM, Dnipro was struck by ballistic missiles. The head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, Oleksandr Hanji, reported that a fire broke out at a local business following the attack. By 9:50 PM, four deaths had been confirmed, and 16 individuals were reported injured, with 14 requiring hospitalization.

The coordinated attacks across these cities underscore the ongoing violence faced by Ukrainian civilians as the conflict continues to escalate.

Recent Russian airstrikes on Ukrainian cities have resulted in at least 21 deaths and numerous injuries. The attacks, targeting civilian infrastructure, highlight the ongoing violence in the region.
