The Kremlin has reiterated its intention to establish a security zone adjacent to Ukraine, a move described by President Vladimir Putin as necessary for eliminating perceived threats to Russian border regions.
Putin indicated that the formation of this security zone is already underway and will persist until the threat to Russian territories is fully addressed. He stated, “This security zone, as we speak of it, is gradually being created in a specific area. We will continue to act in this manner until we eliminate the threat to our border regions.”
Additionally, the Russian government is reportedly focusing on supporting residents in border areas, particularly in Kursk, where financial assistance and other forms of aid are being implemented. Putin emphasized the need to create conditions that allow people to remain in their homes, encouraging them to not only recover what has been lost but also to progress and develop further.
The concept of a security zone has been previously articulated by the Kremlin. Late last year, during a meeting with military officials, Putin underscored the necessity of establishing such a zone along the border with Ukraine, particularly within the operational area of the Northern group of forces. Russian media have suggested that this could involve attempts to exert control over border regions in Ukraine, specifically in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv oblasts.
The Kremlin is advancing plans for a security zone near Ukraine, which President Putin claims is essential for safeguarding Russian border areas. This initiative includes support for local residents and aims to maintain stability in regions perceived as threatened.
