Russia Issues Threats Against Kyiv Amidst Ongoing Tensions

The Russian government has issued a warning regarding potential military strikes on central Kyiv, marking the second such threat within a week. This ultimatum is contingent upon the establishment of a ceasefire coinciding with the upcoming Victory Day celebrations.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has communicated these threats to diplomatic missions and international organizations. The ministry emphasized that foreign diplomats should take the Russian Defense Ministry’s statement seriously, which warns of a massive missile attack on Kyiv should Russia face aggression during the ceasefire.

In addition to the threats, Russia has urged the timely evacuation of diplomatic personnel and other representatives from Kyiv. The Russian Foreign Ministry assured that retaliatory strikes could target key decision-making centers.

Zakharova also expressed discontent regarding remarks made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who hinted at the involvement of Ukrainian drones in the Victory Day parade. She noted that no one at the European Political Community summit challenged him on this point, suggesting a lack of accountability.

In a statement that has drawn criticism, Zakharova claimed that Russia does not operate from a position of aggression, despite the ongoing military actions in Ukraine.

The Russian government has reiterated threats to strike Kyiv if a ceasefire is not established during Victory Day. This comes amid heightened tensions and diplomatic warnings issued to foreign missions.
