No Increase in Military Presence at Belarus-Ukraine Border, Ukrainian Officials Report

Ukrainian border officials have reported no significant movement of military equipment or personnel at the border with Belarus. According to the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, there are currently no signs of troop accumulation near the border.

“As of now, we do not observe any movement of equipment, weapons, or personnel in close proximity to our border, nor any accumulation of forces,” stated spokesperson Andriy Demchenko.

Demchenko emphasized that the primary focus of intelligence operations is to monitor developments deeper within Belarus rather than at the border itself. He noted that Russian pressure on Minsk could lead to increased involvement in the conflict against Ukraine, which poses a risk of renewed military incursions by either Belarusian or Russian forces.

The number of Belarusian military units stationed near the Ukrainian border has remained unchanged since 2022. Demchenko remarked, “Their numbers have neither increased nor decreased; there is a constant rotation of troops.” He also pointed out that there is no substantial presence of Russian military forces in Belarus at this time.

“Currently, there are not many Russian army units on Belarusian territory. Any remaining Russian forces are primarily logistical in nature. There are no infantry units capable of launching an invasion into Ukraine from Belarus at this moment,” he added.

However, Demchenko warned of potential risks posed by Belarusian infrastructure developments. He stated, “The infrastructural projects that Belarus continues to develop, particularly those aimed towards our border, could be utilized by Russia to deploy additional forces into Belarus at any time.”

Ukrainian border officials report no increase in military presence at the Belarus border, while monitoring ongoing developments within Belarus. Concerns remain regarding potential infrastructure that could facilitate military actions.
