The Nizhny Novgorod Refinery, operated by Lukoil and ranked among the top five in Russia, has partially suspended operations following a drone attack on May 20.
The strike resulted in the shutdown of approximately half of the refinery’s capacity. Specifically, the primary processing unit AVT-6, which accounts for 53% of the facility’s output—equating to 25,700 tons per day—has been halted.
As a consequence of the attack, the refinery ceased the production of small wholesale batches of motor fuel and has suspended gasoline sales on the exchange.
Known as the second-largest gasoline producer in Russia, NORSI has an annual crude oil processing capacity of 16 million metric tons, or about 320,000 barrels per day.
According to Reuters, the shutdown of the CDU-6 unit at NORSI is expected to significantly reduce production at the refinery, contributing to increased uncertainty in the Russian energy sector and fuel supply.
It is noteworthy that on May 18, the Lukoil Nizhny Novgorod Refinery in Kstovo was also targeted, resulting in a fire at the facility.
The Nizhny Novgorod Refinery has halted a significant portion of its operations due to a drone strike, impacting fuel production and supply in Russia. This incident adds to the challenges faced by the country's energy sector.
