In the early hours of Thursday, Kyiv experienced a significant assault from Russian forces, resulting in extensive damage across several districts of the city. Emergency services reported destruction of residential buildings, fires, and ongoing rescue operations.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine detailed the impact of the attack across various areas:
- Darniytskyi District: A high-rise residential building was struck, leading to structural collapses. Ten individuals were rescued, and emergency teams are conducting search and rescue operations. Debris also fell on a nearby gas station.
- Solomianskyi District: A parked vehicle caught fire due to the attack.
- Holosiivskyi District: Debris was found on the roadway.
- Svatoshynskyi District: Debris fell onto open areas.
- Obolon District: Debris impacted an open area and a three-story parking structure and business center. Additionally, debris damaged an apartment on the 12th floor of a residential building, and there were injuries reported.
- Dniprovskyi District: A fire broke out on the roof of a five-story residential building, with one injury reported. A drone strike also hit another five-story building, and damage was noted to a private home. Fires were reported in several garages and a parked vehicle.
Kyiv’s Mayor Vitalii Klitschko confirmed that as of the morning of May 14, nine people had been injured in this coordinated attack. The injured were transported to local medical facilities, while two others received outpatient care.
The affected areas include Dniprovskyi, Darniytskyi, Solomianskyi, Holosiivskyi, Svatoshynskyi, and Obolon districts. Numerous fires were reported, alongside damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and commercial properties.
Russian forces deployed drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles against the capital during the night. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
