Death Toll Rises to Twelve Following Russian Strike in Kyiv

The death toll from a Russian strike in Kyiv has reached twelve, including two children, as rescue operations continue in the capital’s Darnytskyi district.

Emergency services are actively engaged in rescue efforts at the site of the destruction. Psychologists and three canine units from the State Emergency Service are on-site to assist.

Approximately 170 rescuers and 51 units of equipment are involved in the ongoing operations, which focus on clearing debris and searching for individuals who may still be trapped under the collapsed structures.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that among the deceased is a 15-year-old girl, with an additional 57 individuals reported injured.

As of now, 27 of the injured are receiving inpatient treatment in city hospitals.

In the early hours of May 14, Kyiv experienced a combined attack that resulted in the destruction of residential building structures in the Darnytskyi district. Preliminary reports suggest that people may still be trapped under the rubble.

May 15 has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv for the victims of the recent mass shelling. Mayor Klitschko announced that flags on municipal buildings will be flown at half-mast.

The city authorities have also recommended that state flags be lowered at all types of properties, both public and private.

In response to the attacks on civilian populations and the deaths of humanitarian workers due to Russian military actions, Ukraine has initiated a call for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed defense forces and intelligence services to develop measures in response to the extensive Russian assault.

According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy’s attack commenced on the evening of May 13, around 6 PM.

Air Force radio-technical troops recorded and tracked 731 aerial attack vehicles, including 56 missiles and 675 drones.

As of 8 AM on May 14, air defense forces had intercepted or suppressed 693 targets, including 41 missiles and 652 drones of various types.

The recent Russian strike in Kyiv has resulted in significant casualties, prompting ongoing rescue operations. The city has declared a day of mourning as authorities respond to the crisis and seek international support.
