Kyivstar Partners with KPI to Enhance Telecom Education in Ukraine

The telecommunications operator Kyivstar has announced a collaboration with Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) aimed at preparing the next generation of telecom engineers. This partnership will see industry experts from Kyivstar actively participating in educational initiatives, sharing practical insights from their work on technological projects.

As part of this collaboration, the two entities are developing integrated courses that will be incorporated into the educational curriculum. This approach is designed to foster systematic engagement with students and ensure the progressive development of their professional skills.

Students and graduates of KPI will also have access to career opportunities at Kyivstar through initiatives such as “On Your Marks, Get Set, Career!” and “No Hesitation.” Notably, KPI has been the alma mater for many Kyivstar employees, including top executives like CEO Oleksandr Komarov and Chief Technology Officer Volodymyr Lutenko.

“An engineer is a profession that creates the future. Today, over a thousand specialists in Kyivstar’s Technical Directorate provide communication services for millions of Ukrainians,” commented Volodymyr Lutenko.

Lutenko emphasized the resilience and technological advancement of the Ukrainian telecom sector, indicating that engineering disciplines offer young professionals extensive opportunities for growth.

“We warmly welcome graduates to the Kyivstar team and believe that the new generation of engineers will continue to shape Ukraine’s digital future,” he added.

The importance of telecom education is underscored by the increasing significance of digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, IoT, artificial intelligence, and new communication technologies in Ukraine. The sector requires professionals who possess both engineering expertise and IT skills, as well as an understanding of real-world technological challenges.

KPI has commenced its enrollment campaign for the Educational and Scientific Institute of Information and Telecommunications Systems (NN ITS). The institute’s educational programs cover contemporary areas in electronic communications, including:

  • Information and communication technologies.
  • Engineering and programming of infocommunications.
  • Electronic communication systems and IoT.

Starting in 2026, NN ITS plans to introduce two new interdisciplinary programs: “Artificial Intelligence System Engineering in Electronic Communications” and “Telecommunications System Engineering and Unmanned Aerial Complex Management.”

“Modern electronic communications are not just about data transmission; they also involve creating technologies that ensure the security and resilience of the state. This is why we are launching new interdisciplinary programs: ‘Artificial Intelligence System Engineering in Electronic Communications GF88’ and ‘Telecommunications System Engineering for Unmanned Aerial Complexes GG88,’ as the market demands engineers capable of addressing contemporary challenges,” stated Tetiana Zheliaskova, KPI’s Vice-Rector for Educational Work.

Zheliaskova further noted that the university shares Kyivstar’s belief that “Communication is about people.”

“Today, this takes on an even deeper meaning: behind every modern communication technology are engineers, and KPI prepares the best among them,” she added.

Throughout their studies, students will blend engineering training with IT competencies and hands-on experience with modern networks, digital services, and cybersecurity technologies. Significant emphasis is placed on laboratory work in network technologies, mobile communications, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The institute also offers international certification programs, academic mobility, internships during studies, and opportunities to participate in technical projects, conferences, and hackathons.

In 2025, NN ITS is expected to have one of the largest allocations of budget-funded places among technical disciplines in electronic communications, with 145 spots available, indicating a high likelihood of admission for prospective students.

The employment initiative “On Your Marks, Get Set, Career!” is designed for first-year university students. This program allows young individuals to officially join the Kyivstar team, enjoy the benefits of formal employment, and work under the guidance of experienced mentors, combining their studies with practical professional experience and financial stability.

The “No Hesitation” program offers career development opportunities for motivated individuals, regardless of age.

Kyivstar's partnership with KPI aims to enhance telecommunications education in Ukraine, providing students with practical experience and career opportunities in the sector. The initiative reflects the growing importance of skilled professionals in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
