Ukrainian Drones Target Oil Refinery in Tyumen Region, Russia

Ukrainian drones launched an attack on an oil refinery in the Tyumen region of Russia, according to regional governor Alexander Moor. He reported that the assault was successfully repelled and preliminary assessments indicated that the refinery sustained no damage.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that a fire covering an area of 100 square meters was extinguished following the incident. Local residents reported hearing multiple explosions, and videos circulating on Telegram showed a plume of smoke rising from the refinery.

Russian media outlet Astra confirmed the sighting of smoke above the Tyumen Oil Refinery. In response to the drone threat, authorities have implemented a drone safety regime across Tyumen and neighboring regions, including Kurgan, Chelyabinsk, and Sverdlovsk. Additionally, flight operations at Tyumen’s Roschino Airport have been restricted.

The Tyumen Oil Refinery, formerly known as the Antipinsky Refinery, is the largest independent oil processing facility in Russia and the only industrial refinery in the Ural Federal District, as noted by Forbes. The refinery is located approximately 2,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Serhiy Sternenko, an advisor to the Minister of Defense, remarked that this incident marks a record distance for Ukrainian drones, referring to their capability for deep strikes. The planned processing capacity of the refinery is between 7.5 and 9 million tons of crude oil annually.

The Ukrainian General Staff has not yet commented on the attack. Ukrainian forces have regularly targeted Russian oil industry facilities. In late May, Reuters reported that nearly all major refineries in central Russia had to halt or reduce production due to drone strikes.

Residents in various regions, including Belgorod, Ryazan, and Krasnodar, have previously complained about shortages of gasoline and diesel fuel at gas stations. Fuel sales restrictions have been implemented in many areas, with reports of limits on gasoline sales at major gas station chains in Moscow.

Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in Russia's Tyumen region, leading to a fire that was quickly extinguished. Local authorities have since imposed flight restrictions and a drone safety regime in response to the incident.
