Zelensky and Belgian PM Discuss Support for Ukraine Amid G7 Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever to discuss ongoing support for Ukraine’s defense. The meeting, which took place during the G7 summit in France, highlighted Belgium’s preparations for a substantial aid package and contributions to the PURL program.

Zelensky announced via social media that Belgium is set to supply F-16 fighter jets, with the first deliveries expected later this year, emphasizing the urgent need for such assistance in protecting Ukraine’s airspace.

During their discussions, Zelensky briefed De Wever on the outcomes of the Ukrainian delegation’s meetings at the G7 summit, as well as diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Russia. He stressed the importance of maintaining pressure on the aggressor and discussed Ukraine’s path toward European integration.

The G7 summit is currently taking place from June 15 to 17 in Évian-les-Bains, France, focusing on various critical issues, including peace negotiations to conclude the war in Ukraine and the situation regarding Iran, particularly the agreement with the United States and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Zelensky participated in a working session at the G7 on June 16, having arrived at the summit on Tuesday morning, where he was welcomed by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Additionally, former U.S. President Donald Trump and Zelensky held discussions in the summit’s corridors, with reports indicating that Trump has become more assertive in pressuring Russia due to the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield.

Macron stated that the document agreed upon during the G7 summit reaffirms Ukraine’s territorial integrity, noting that participants concluded that Russia currently shows no serious willingness to engage in peace talks.
