Ukraine is actively pursuing an additional $20 billion in military assistance from its allies, as stated by Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov during a joint press conference with the Dutch Defence Minister.
Fedorov indicated that this funding is intended to supplement previously announced aid packages. A source within the Ukrainian defense sector informed Reuters that Kyiv plans to address this matter at the upcoming meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, commonly referred to as the Ramstein group, which includes over 50 countries.
Regarding current aid levels, Fedorov noted that out of approximately $40 billion pledged by allies, Ukraine has received around $24 billion in scheduled deliveries.
In addition, Ukraine is collaborating with its partners to recalibrate the focus of assistance to enhance its effectiveness. Key priorities include:
- Long-range artillery
- Ukrainian drones
- Investment in the NATO PURL initiative
- Air defense systems
Fedorov emphasized that Ukraine views the current period as a “window of opportunity” for strengthening support from partners. He remarked, “We are trying to convey to our partners that there is a window of opportunity.” He also pointed out that Russian advances on the front have slowed this year, partly due to Ukrainian drone strikes targeting Russian logistics and supply lines.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine’s allies within the G7 and the Defense Contact Group have repeatedly affirmed their commitment to bolstering military support for Kyiv, particularly regarding air defense systems, long-range capabilities, and munitions. Additionally, G7 leaders have highlighted the importance of preparing Ukraine for the upcoming winter, pledging further funding and equipment to ensure the country’s energy resilience.
