Nighttime Motorcycle Ban Imposed in Crimea Amid Security Concerns

The authorities in Crimea have instituted a ban on nighttime travel using mopeds, motorcycles, and other motor vehicles, effective from June 17 until further notice. This restriction will be enforced from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with the stated objective of enhancing public safety and protecting military and critical state facilities.

Oleg Kryuchkov, an advisor to the Russian head of Crimea, articulated that the noise produced by these vehicles interferes with the operations of fire groups. He noted that the sounds of motorcycle engines are similar to those of drones, which has raised concerns regarding security.

Since the summer of 2022, Crimea has been subjected to drone attacks from Ukraine, targeting military installations, industrial sites, and fuel transport vehicles. Following a drone strike on a train traveling from Moscow to Simferopol on June 10, the movement of long-distance passenger trains during nighttime hours has been suspended.

The recent nighttime ban on motorcycles and mopeds in Crimea reflects heightened security measures amid ongoing drone threats. Authorities aim to mitigate risks associated with noise interference during military operations.
