Devices either became stuck on the initial screen displaying the company’s white logo or would shut down and restart immediately after entering the screen unlock PIN.
The malfunction affected a wide range of devices, from older models like the Google Pixel 6 to the latest flagship Pixel 10 series.
In May, developers attempted to release a special patched software version aimed at resolving the issue. However, this update only assisted a limited number of users.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that many affected smartphones are unable to boot into the standard recovery mode, preventing owners from installing any fixes independently.
On Google’s official bug tracking platform, Google Issue Tracker, the number of detailed complaints and comments from frustrated customers has exceeded 800.
In June, Google began sending official letters to affected customers, acknowledging that the investigation into the causes of the crashes has been ongoing since March.
Engineers have developed step-by-step guides to restore the operating system’s functionality; however, they have declined to publish these procedures publicly on the official website.
Instead of issuing a universal public release, the company is urging each owner of a malfunctioning phone to contact Google Support directly.
This approach is necessitated by the fact that there is still no universal solution for this bug: the recovery steps depend entirely on the specific stage and manner in which the error manifests on each individual device.
Experts caution users against attempting to resolve the issue by switching to beta versions of the upcoming Android 17. According to feedback on specialized forums, installing unrefined software only exacerbates the condition of the device.
