A Russian drone attack occurred in the Chernobyl exclusion zone on June 7, targeting a building at the Centralized Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel. The incident, which took place around 2:10 AM, resulted in a fire.
The strike caused partial damage to the container reception building; however, Energoatom confirmed that no spent nuclear fuel was stored at the site during the attack.
The fire, which covered an area of approximately 40 square meters, was quickly contained and extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the personnel.
Radiation levels at the Centralized Storage Facility remain within normal limits, and specialists are continuing to monitor the situation while coordinating with relevant state agencies.
“This latest strike on a nuclear infrastructure facility once again highlights the true nature of the Kremlin regime, which deliberately poses threats to nuclear and radiation safety. Russia continues to act as a terrorist state, disregarding international law and the safety of millions,” stated Energoatom.
In May 2026, a significant forest fire had previously erupted in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, exacerbated by dry weather and strong winds, but radiation levels remained within acceptable limits during that incident as well.
A Russian drone attack on a building in the Chernobyl exclusion zone resulted in a fire but no injuries or radiation hazards. Energoatom condemned the attack, emphasizing the risks posed to nuclear safety.
