Ukraine’s Border Service Reports No Major Russian Troop Buildup Near Belarus

The Ukrainian Border Service has stated that there is no significant accumulation of Russian troops along the border with Belarus that would indicate an imminent attack on Ukraine. This assertion comes amid ongoing tensions in the region.

According to a spokesperson for the Border Service, there are only brief pauses in military activity. “Russia is currently exerting pressure on Belarus to involve its forces in the conflict against us,” the spokesperson noted.

Recent claims by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who accused Ukraine of drone attacks, were countered by Ukrainian officials. They assert that the majority of drones used in Russia’s extensive strikes on Ukraine are launched from Belarusian territory.

“Most of the drones that Russia deploys for mass attacks enter Belarus and traverse its territory before targeting regions in Ukraine, particularly Kyiv and Zhytomyr. We have observed an increase in this tactic in recent weeks,” the Border Service representative explained.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously indicated that Russia is seeking to further entangle Belarus in the conflict, with plans for military operations targeting both southern and northern directions from Belarusian territory.

This raises concerns about potential attacks on Ukraine or even NATO member states. The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has acknowledged the real threat posed by Belarus.

The Ukrainian Border Service has confirmed that there is no significant Russian military buildup near the Belarus border, despite ongoing pressure from Russia on Belarus to participate in the conflict. Officials warn of increased drone activity originating from Belarus, indicating a complex military situation in the region.
