Ukrainian President Proposes Meeting with Putin to End Conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has publicly invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to set a date for a meeting aimed at concluding the ongoing war. In an open letter dated June 4, Zelensky emphasized the necessity of direct dialogue between the two leaders.

In his letter, Zelensky stated, “Ukraine offers to end the war in a format between us and you. I propose a meeting. Everyone has heard your representatives, smiling, say that I could supposedly come to Moscow. But after 26 years, a Ukrainian leader has nothing to do in your capital, just as a Russian leader has no business in Kyiv.”

Zelensky highlighted that there are countries traditionally known for hosting leaders in negotiations regarding war and peace, including Switzerland, Turkey, and various Arab nations. He noted, “Many can and want to host this meeting.”

He further asserted that it is the leaders who determine critical issues, a principle that has remained constant throughout history. Zelensky urged for a clear date for the proposed meeting, stating, “Ukraine is ready for a complete ceasefire during the negotiations. This is a standard practice, as evidenced by current circumstances surrounding Iran. Attempting to establish a genuine silence is the best starting point for us to begin talking to each other. We believe this will not just be an attempt but a real ceasefire if you desire it.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war. He proposed a ceasefire during discussions, emphasizing the importance of direct dialogue between the two leaders.
