American actress Angelina Jolie recently visited Ukraine, specifically Kherson, in November 2025, as part of her ongoing humanitarian efforts. British photographer and humanitarian Giles Duley, who accompanied her, shared insights into the purpose of her trip and the impact it had on local residents.
Duley recounted meeting Jolie in London shortly before her departure, where she sought his advice on potential locations to visit. “She is a genuine humanitarian. Her empathy and concern for people are evident, and she always wants to understand how individuals cope in wartime conditions,” he said. Duley recommended Kherson, noting the presence of their emergency medical services in the area, which would ensure her safety and allow her to witness firsthand the realities faced by those living on the front lines.
According to Duley, Jolie has a deep affection for Ukraine. He expressed confidence that her visit positively influenced the morale of Ukrainians, particularly in Kherson. He mentioned receiving numerous messages, including from two soldiers he has known for years, who were uplifted by her presence. “They shared how much it meant to see her there, under anti-drone nets, as she truly grasped the situation on the ground,” Duley added.
In addition to Kherson, Jolie also visited Mykolaiv, where she shared her experiences and impressions from her time in Ukraine.
