Russia has begun equipping its Shahed-type strike drones with electronic warfare systems aimed at countering Ukrainian interception drones. This modification reflects a strategic adaptation in response to ongoing hostilities.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces are modifying their drones, which are frequently deployed in attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. These enhancements are intended to improve the resilience of the drones against aerial interception.
Ukrainian Defense Ministry representative Oleksiy Vyskub confirmed that such technologies are being integrated into the Shahed drones, which are regularly used by Russia in its operations against Ukraine. He stated that this adjustment represents an effort to alter drone tactics in light of Ukraine’s active countermeasures.
“These modified drones are flying over our country and attempting to suppress our interception drones,” Vyskub noted through a translator.
Experts in Ukraine perceive these changes as a Russian initiative to increase the survivability of its drones amid active counteractions from air defense systems and interceptors. This development complicates the task of protecting airspace and necessitates further advancements in detection and neutralization technologies.
