U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, a member of the Democratic Party, has addressed a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to former President Donald Trump concerning Ukraine’s air defense shortages.
Blumenthal assured that the United States would respond to Zelensky’s request for assistance. He stated, “America will positively respond to this request. We have done so in the past and must do so again in the future, as it concerns saving lives.” He emphasized the urgency of the situation, citing the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine as evidence of targeted attacks by Russian forces.
The senator remarked that American support, including from Congress and the administration, is crucial for Ukraine’s defense efforts. He described Zelensky’s letter as articulate and skillfully crafted, expressing gratitude to the American people for their previous assistance.
In his correspondence, Zelensky highlighted the deepening deficit of air defense systems in Ukraine and noted that the country relies almost entirely on U.S. support to protect against Russian ballistic missile threats. He also reported that during a large-scale attack on May 24, Russia deployed two medium-range ballistic missiles, further underscoring the need for enhanced defense capabilities.
