According to a statement from SOUTHCOM, the strike was ordered by General Francis Donovan. The Unified Task Force ‘Southern List’ executed a lethal kinetic strike against the vessel, which was reportedly associated with organizations designated as terrorist entities.
Military officials indicated that intelligence confirmed the vessel’s involvement in drug trafficking activities, as it was navigating established smuggling routes in the eastern Pacific. The operation resulted in the deaths of two men described as drug traffickers.
This recent action follows a similar strike reported by U.S. military forces in February, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. Previous strikes against vessels linked to narcotics trafficking have also been noted, including one mentioned in late December.
