Ukrainian Drone Strike Halts Operations at Russian Oil Refinery

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed the cessation of operations at the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara region following a drone attack on May 21, 2026. This information was disclosed in an official statement from the General Staff.

According to military sources, the Ukrainian defense forces targeted the Syzran Oil Refinery, which has now been confirmed to have stopped operations as a result of the attack. The statement highlighted the impact of the drone strike on this significant facility.

In addition, the General Staff reported damage to equipment and storage tanks at the Yaroslavl Linear Production Dispatch Station (LPDS) due to a subsequent strike on May 25. This incident further emphasizes the ongoing military actions in the region.

On May 24, Ukrainian forces also confirmed the targeting of a Russian radar system, specifically the 1L125 Niobium-SV, located in the Luhansk region.

Furthermore, on May 25 and during the night of May 26, Ukrainian defense units conducted strikes on several key Russian assets in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions. These operations are part of a broader strategy to disrupt Russian military capabilities.

The Syzran Oil Refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in the Samara region and is part of the Rosneft group. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, heavy fuel oil, bitumen, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases, processing between 7 and 8.5 million tons of oil annually. The May 21 drone attack marked a significant escalation in the conflict’s impact on critical infrastructure.
