Preliminary investigations into the downed drone revealed components sourced from both Chinese and European manufacturers, including microchips, transistors, diodes, and relays from companies like Mornsun, Wayon Electronics, GigaDevice, Shenzhen Codaca Electronic, and STMicroelectronics. Experts have pointed out that this electronic architecture is consistent with the drones Russia employs in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
“The situation in Mali illustrates how rapidly dual-use technologies are being transformed into tools for war exportation. As long as the supply of such components to Russia remains loosely regulated, the production of drones will continue to expand alongside their operational reach,” Vlasuk stated.
