NATO Secretary General Warns of Severe Consequences for Russia’s Nuclear Threats

The Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, has issued a stark warning regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons by Russia against Ukraine, stating that such an action would lead to “devastating consequences.” This statement comes in light of ongoing joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus that focus on nuclear capabilities.

During a press briefing, Rutte was asked to comment on these exercises, which began earlier this week. He emphasized that NATO is closely monitoring the situation and the developments of these drills.

On May 18, Belarus initiated joint military exercises with Russia aimed at the combat application of nuclear weapons. These maneuvers involve missile forces and aviation, and are conducted under the supervision of the Belarusian General Staff.

Military personnel are practicing the delivery of nuclear munitions, preparing them for potential use, and executing operations in unprepared areas across the country. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense maintains that these exercises are not directed against any third countries.

NATO's Secretary General has warned of severe repercussions should Russia deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine, coinciding with joint military exercises with Belarus. The drills, focused on nuclear capabilities, are being closely monitored by NATO.
