Russian forces have launched an attack on the city of Konotop, resulting in significant damage to residential buildings, including a high-rise apartment complex. Local authorities report that people may be trapped under the rubble.
According to Artem Semenikhin, the city’s mayor, parts of the apartment building have been destroyed, raising concerns about potential casualties. “Behind me is a high-rise building. Part of it is gone. And there are people inside,” he stated in a social media update.
In addition to the residential damage, the regional hospital has also been affected, with windows blown out and structural damage reported. Semenikhin noted that numerous administrative buildings and homes have sustained broken windows and doors, further complicating the situation for residents.
The attack has also led to the destruction of a local museum, highlighting the broader impact on the community’s cultural heritage.
Local officials are currently assessing the situation, as many individuals are reported injured due to the assault. This incident follows a recent strike on Dnipro, where five people were injured, and a fire broke out as a result of the attack.
