The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has dismissed allegations from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service that Latvia is preparing to allow Ukrainian forces to launch airstrikes against Russia from its territory. Latvian officials have also labeled these claims as false.
Georgiy Tikhiy, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, took to social media to refute the accusations, stating, “There is no truth in the recent series of false accusations from Moscow regarding preparations for attacks against Russia from Latvian territory. We officially deny them. Ukraine does not use the territory or airspace of Latvia in its operations against Russia and has no intention of doing so.”
“This Russian falsehood is merely a continuation of a broader propaganda campaign by the Kremlin aimed at destabilizing public opinion in Latvia and the Baltic states as a whole,” he added.
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže echoed these sentiments, calling the Russian claims “lies.”
“Russia is lying again! This time it is the Foreign Intelligence Service conducting a disinformation campaign against Latvia. The fact is: Latvia is not providing airspace for attacks on Russia. This has been explained to Russian representatives multiple times,” she stated on social media.
On May 19, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service accused Latvia of allegedly agreeing to allow Ukrainian drones to launch attacks on Russian targets from its territory.
“Despite concerns from the Latvian side about becoming a target for a retaliatory strike from Moscow, the Kyiv authorities convinced Riga to agree to conduct the operation. The deep-rooted Russophobia of the current Latvian leaders has proven stronger than their ability for critical thinking and self-preservation,” the Russian agency claimed.
Additionally, the agency asserted that several military bases in Latvia are allegedly hosting personnel from Ukraine’s drone forces.
Both Ukraine and Latvia have firmly rejected Russian claims of military collaboration, labeling them as disinformation. Officials from both nations emphasized their commitment to maintaining sovereignty and countering Kremlin propaganda.
