Ukrainian Drones Target Russian Military Infrastructure in Recent Strikes

In the early hours of May 17, Ukrainian drones conducted a series of strikes on military and energy infrastructure in Russia’s Moscow region, as well as on facilities in the temporarily occupied Crimea. These operations were reported by sources from the Ukrainian public broadcaster.

According to the reports, multiple strategic targets were hit in the Moscow region, including a military-industrial complex and oil logistics facilities. Notably, the Angstrom plant, which produces semiconductor products for Russia’s defense industry and is under international sanctions, was among the affected sites. Additionally, the Moscow Oil Refinery and two oil pumping stations were reportedly damaged.

The strikes also targeted the infrastructure of the Belbek military airfield in Crimea. Preliminary assessments indicate that systems related to air defense, including the Pantsir-S2 missile system and elements of the S-400, were impacted, along with control systems for drone operations.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) emphasized that these operations aim to weaken Russia’s military-economic capacity and complicate the logistics of resource supply for its combat operations against Ukraine.

“Such strikes diminish the enemy’s ability to sustain the war and demonstrate the vulnerability of even deeply entrenched targets in the Moscow region,” the SBU stated.

Details regarding the extent of the damage and the overall impact of the strikes are still being clarified.

Ukrainian drones targeted key military and energy facilities in Russia, including the Angstrom plant and the Moscow Oil Refinery. The strikes aim to disrupt Russia's military logistics and capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
