Ukraine Proposes European Mediation for Airport Ceasefire with Russia

Ukraine has put forth a proposal for European nations to assist in negotiating a mutual cessation of strikes on airports with Russia. This initiative aims to establish a distinct platform for discussions centered on security issues and a gradual approach toward potential agreements.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the head of Ukraine’s Office of the President, elaborated on the rationale behind the proposal, suggesting that it could appeal to Russian interests. He indicated that such an arrangement could be framed in a way that would resonate within Russia, presenting it not as an air ceasefire, but rather as a measure to alleviate airport-related problems.

The concept of an “airport ceasefire” was initially introduced by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba during a meeting with European Union foreign ministers in Brussels. He urged European partners to facilitate dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow regarding the mutual suspension of attacks on airports.

Kuleba emphasized the potential for Europe to create a dedicated platform or a specialized group to explore this negotiation format further. The proposal reflects ongoing efforts to address security concerns amid the conflict while seeking avenues for dialogue.

Ukraine has proposed that European countries mediate negotiations with Russia for a mutual cessation of airport strikes. This initiative aims to create a new platform for security discussions and potential agreements.
