Ukraine has introduced a robotic evacuation system designed for transporting injured personnel from combat zones at the SAHA 2026 defense exhibition in Istanbul. The system, named MAUL, features an armored capsule and aims to minimize risk to medical staff during evacuation operations.
Developed by the Ukrainian company AIDrones in collaboration with the First Separate Medical Battalion, MAUL has already been utilized in approximately 100 evacuation missions, according to company representatives at the exhibition.
The system is equipped with an armored capsule for safe transport, a ventilation system, and protection against shrapnel and FPV drones. It also boasts a four-wheel drive and an infrared camera for nighttime operations.
MAUL can reach speeds of up to 82 km/h and is designed to operate in challenging terrain. AIDrones emphasized the importance of safe transport for the injured, highlighting features such as shock absorption, the armored capsule, and a ventilation system. The platform employs pneumatic tires and is adapted for high mobility in rough landscapes.
The SAHA 2026 exhibition is recognized as one of the largest defense events in the region, showcasing innovations from various countries.
Advancements in Ukrainian Weaponry
In addition to MAUL, Ukraine has developed a new laser system called “Trizub,” aimed at countering Shahed-type drones, which is currently undergoing final testing before its public unveiling.
The use of robotics on the Ukrainian front is increasing, with machines replacing human personnel in high-risk areas, from logistics to direct combat engagements. Oleg Fedorishin, Director of Research and Development at DevDroid, noted that Ukrainian robotic systems are rapidly modernized, allowing for real-time adjustments to programming during combat.
As the conflict continues, the integration of advanced technology into military operations appears to be a strategic focus for Ukraine, reflecting a broader trend in modern warfare.
