Intensified Attacks by Russian Forces on Ukrainian Defense Positions

On May 8, Russian occupation forces launched 52 attacks against Ukrainian defense forces, with the heaviest assaults occurring in the Pokrovsk direction.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Pokrovsk area experienced 16 attempts by Russian troops to advance since the start of the day. The Gulyaypole direction saw seven repelled attacks, while nine assaults were recorded in the Kostiantynivka area.

Additionally, Russian forces conducted shelling in the Sumy region, and around ten clashes were reported in the Slobozhansky and Kursk directions. Several attacks also took place in the Lyman, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Oleksandrivka, and Dnipro directions.

In a related development, during the night of May 8, Russian forces targeted Ukraine with 67 strikes using Shahed-type drones, including reactive drones such as “Herber,” “Italmas,” and imitation drones labeled “Parodia.”

In the morning, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that since the Kremlin announced a so-called ceasefire, Russian forces have continued their assaults and shelling along the front lines, as well as launching extensive drone attacks.

Russian forces intensified their attacks on Ukrainian defense positions on May 8, particularly in the Pokrovsk area. Despite claims of a ceasefire, assaults and drone strikes have continued, highlighting ongoing hostilities in the region.
