Germany Affirms Commitment to Kyiv Embassy Amid Russian Threats

The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has reiterated that Germany will maintain its diplomatic operations in Kyiv, despite recent threats from the Kremlin and calls for foreign embassies to evacuate the Ukrainian capital.

Wadephul emphasized that Berlin has no plans to reduce or suspend its diplomatic mission in Kyiv, stating, “We are in close contact with other embassies. We will not be intimidated by this. We know the Russians and the methods they employ.” His remarks come in response to statements made by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who urged foreign nations to withdraw their diplomatic staff from Ukraine.

Furthermore, Wadephul accused Russia of conducting not only military operations against Ukraine but also an extensive information campaign aimed at Western nations supporting Kyiv. He characterized these pressure tactics as part of a broader strategy intended to undermine the resolve of Ukraine’s allies.

Regarding the potential for direct negotiations between Germany and Russia, Wadephul did not dismiss the possibility for the future. However, he stressed that any such discussions would depend on Moscow’s willingness to take genuine steps toward ending the conflict and achieving a peaceful resolution.

Germany's Foreign Minister has confirmed the country's commitment to its embassy in Kyiv amid Russian threats, highlighting ongoing diplomatic support for Ukraine. He also noted the broader implications of Russia's actions on Western resolve.
