Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Russian Drones in Recent Attack

In the early hours of May 7, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted 92 drones launched by the Russian military, marking a significant engagement in the ongoing conflict. The attack involved a total of 102 drones, with eight of them striking six different locations across the country.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the assault commenced at 7:00 PM on May 6, with drones originating from various regions, including Bryansk, Kursk, and Crimea. The types of drones used in this operation included Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and imitation drones known as “Parody.”

In response to the aerial threat, Ukrainian forces employed a combination of aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. These coordinated efforts were crucial in mitigating the impact of the attack.

  • As of 8:00 AM, preliminary reports indicated that air defense systems had successfully intercepted or neutralized 92 drones across northern and eastern Ukraine.
  • Additionally, eight drones were confirmed to have hit six locations, with debris from the intercepted drones falling in four areas.

The attack was ongoing, with several drones still present in Ukrainian airspace, as warned by the Air Force.
