Since the morning of May 6, Ukrainian forces have engaged in 120 combat encounters, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The report, released at 10 PM, highlights significant military activity, including one missile strike involving two missiles and 47 aerial assaults, during which 173 guided bombs were dropped.
Additionally, the report indicates that approximately 5,649 kamikaze drones were deployed, alongside 1,862 artillery strikes targeting populated areas and military positions. The conflict remains particularly fierce in five key areas, with the most intense battles occurring in the Pokrovsk direction of Donetsk.
In the South Slobozhansk direction, Russian forces launched 11 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk, Starytsia, and towards Lyptsi, Lyman, Izbytske, Mala Vovcha, and Symynivka. One of these assaults is ongoing.
Ukrainian defenders in the Lyman direction repelled 15 assaults around the settlements of Nadiya, Stavky, and Yampil, as well as towards Lyman, Novoserhiivka, and Ozerne, with one engagement still in progress.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian troops conducted 14 attacks in the vicinity of Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Pleshchiivka, and Stepanivka, as well as towards Kostiantynivka and Novopavlivka.
The Pokrovsk direction saw 25 attacks, as the enemy attempted to advance towards Nikanorivka, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Serhiivka, and Molodetske. One of these attacks is currently ongoing.
Fifteen assaults were also recorded in the Huliaipole direction, particularly around Zlahoda, Dobropillia, and Staroukrainka, as well as towards the settlements of Hirkke and Huliaipilske. Fighting continues in the Northern Slobozhansk, Kursk, Kupiansk, Oleksandrivka, Orikhiv, and Dnipro directions.
On April 26, General Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that the Russian military had intensified its offensive across nearly the entire front line. He emphasized that Ukrainian Defense Forces are relying on careful planning, innovative strategies, and effective use of available resources, resulting in enemy losses that exceed their capacity for reinforcements.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remarked on April 23 that the situation at the front is particularly unique, noting that Ukrainian positions are more stable than in previous months and years. However, he also pointed out that Russia continues to prepare for aerial attacks on Ukraine.
The U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW) previously indicated that the realities on the battlefield by the end of March 2026 show that significant Russian gains, let alone a complete victory, are not inevitable.
Intense fighting has erupted across multiple fronts in Ukraine, with significant military actions reported since May 6. Ukrainian forces are actively repelling numerous assaults, particularly in the Donetsk region, as Russian troops escalate their offensive efforts.
