Ukraine Celebrates Infantry Day Amid Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian military leaders, including Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commemorated Infantry Day, emphasizing the critical role of infantry in the ongoing conflict with Russia. The leaders highlighted the importance of preserving soldiers’ lives through technological advancements in military operations.

In a message posted on Facebook, Syrskyi expressed his commitment to enhancing the safety of infantry troops, stating that the integration of new technologies, such as drones, is a personal priority. He noted that Ukrainian soldiers are currently engaged in repelling numerous Russian attacks along the front lines.

“Our task is to maximize the preservation of infantry. This means providing them with new technologies, including aerial and ground drones. The development and implementation of innovations in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is my personal priority,” Syrskyi remarked.

On this occasion, Syrskyi paid tribute to fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine’s independence and freedom. He affirmed that their sacrifices would not be in vain, asserting that the resilience of the Ukrainian infantry is pivotal to the nation’s struggle.

“Eternal memory and glory to the fallen defenders. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. Ukraine will endure because the infantry fights. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” he added.

President Zelenskyy referred to the infantry as the foundation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, acknowledging their crucial role in maintaining frontline positions. He expressed gratitude to all soldiers for their efforts in defending the country.

“No matter what happens, the front line and Ukraine’s positions are always where our infantry is. Thank you to every soldier and all combat brigades for doing everything possible to defeat the occupiers and protect Ukraine. Happy Infantry Day! Glory to our warriors! Glory to Ukraine!” Zelenskyy stated.

General Oleksandr Shapovalov, Commander of the Ground Forces, emphasized the infantry’s understanding of the value of each meter of Ukrainian territory. He remarked that the infantry is essential for holding critical front-line positions and absorbing the brunt of combat.

“The infantry has always been and remains the backbone of the military. It bears the heaviest burdens on the front lines and demonstrates that the resilience of the Ukrainian soldier is one of the key reasons why Ukraine fights and endures,” Shapovalov noted.

He further highlighted that despite evolving technologies and combat strategies, the significance of infantry remains unchanged. Shapovalov underscored the importance of enhancing training and resources for infantry units.

“The infantry translates commanders’ decisions and the work of artillery, drones, reconnaissance, engineers, communications specialists, and medics into tangible results on the ground. Therefore, it is crucial for us to strengthen training, improve logistics, and develop commanders while incorporating the experiences of combat units into training,” he stated.

Shapovalov extended his gratitude to all infantry soldiers, including those currently in combat, those preparing for missions, and those recovering from injuries. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by those who have given their lives for Ukraine.

“We remember the fallen. We must honor their courage not just in words but through the quality of our daily work. Thank you to all specialists who work alongside and for the infantry. Thank you to the families of our soldiers for their strength, patience, and support. The infantry is always where it is hardest. That is why the infantry commands special respect in the Ukrainian military. Happy Infantry Day! Glory to Ukrainian infantry! Glory to Ukraine!” he concluded.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense also joined in the tributes, stating that the presence of infantry soldiers is a key indicator of Ukraine’s freedom. They acknowledged the close cooperation between infantry units and security forces, emphasizing the importance of camaraderie in their efforts.

“The units of the GUR of Ukraine operate in close cooperation with infantry units of the security and defense forces — we value the brotherhood and understand the price we pay for the future. Eternal honor and memory to the infantry who fell for Ukraine in battle. Honor and glory to everyone who has become the strength of the Ukrainian state — its shield and sword!” they declared.

Additionally, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War extended wishes for resilience and support to infantry soldiers, assuring ongoing efforts to secure the return of those captured by enemy forces.

“The Coordination Headquarters continues to work diligently to ensure that those infantry soldiers who have fallen into enemy captivity return home as soon as possible,” they stated.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Security Service of Ukraine, and the Drone Forces also expressed their congratulations to the infantry. Infantry Day has been officially observed in Ukraine since 2019, following a decree by then-President Petro Poroshenko.

Ukrainian military leaders commemorated Infantry Day, underscoring the vital role of infantry in the ongoing conflict with Russia. They emphasized the need for technological advancements to enhance soldier safety and honored the sacrifices of fallen soldiers.
