Zelensky Highlights Military Changes Ahead of May 9 Parade in Moscow

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently remarked that this year’s May 9 parade in Moscow will be notably different, as it is expected to occur without military equipment for the first time in many years. Zelensky made these comments during the VIII Summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 4, 2026.

During his address, Zelensky stated,

“Russia has announced a parade on the ninth of May, but there will be no military equipment. This will be the first time, if it is indeed the case, that they cannot afford to showcase weaponry at the parade. Ukrainian drones may also fly over this parade. This indicates that they are no longer as strong as they once were,”

underscoring a shift in military dynamics.

He further elaborated on the significance of the upcoming summer, suggesting it will be a critical period for Russian President Vladimir Putin to decide on the future course of the conflict. Zelensky noted,

“This summer will be the moment when Putin will decide what to do next: expand this war or move towards diplomacy. We must push him towards diplomacy,”

emphasizing the importance of diplomatic efforts in resolving the ongoing conflict.

The comments reflect a broader context of military and political developments in the region, as Ukraine continues to navigate its relationship with Russia amidst ongoing tensions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that the upcoming May 9 parade in Moscow will lack military equipment, marking a significant shift. He emphasized the need for diplomatic efforts as Russia faces critical decisions regarding the ongoing conflict.
