Ukraine’s Naftogaz Faces Renewed Attacks Amid Ongoing Conflict

Since the beginning of the year, Russia has launched 96 attacks on Naftogaz facilities, according to the company’s CEO, Serhiy Koretsky. He emphasized the severity of the situation, stating that these assaults have caused significant damage and disruptions.

Koretsky noted that all aspects of Naftogaz’s operations, including gas and oil extraction, transportation, and energy production, have been targeted throughout the winter heating season. The company has reported that 320 employees have lost their lives since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, with 19 fatalities occurring in 2026 alone.

In February, Naftogaz revealed that Russia had conducted 401 strikes against its infrastructure since the invasion began, with 229 attacks recorded in 2025—more than the total from the previous three years combined. This pattern of aggression has intensified, particularly against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has faced increased assaults since the fall of 2025.

The ongoing attacks have led to significant disruptions in electricity supply, with many regions experiencing scheduled blackouts. However, as spring approached and solar energy generation increased, these restrictions were somewhat eased.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky remarked on March 24 that Russian forces are continuing their efforts to undermine Ukraine’s energy system. The Security Service of Ukraine has classified these strikes as crimes against humanity.

In early February 2026, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Russia had not initiated attacks on civilian targets, alleging instead that Ukraine was the aggressor, striking at Russian energy facilities.

Naftogaz has reported a surge in attacks from Russia, with significant implications for its operations and employee safety. The ongoing conflict continues to disrupt Ukraine's energy infrastructure, leading to widespread power outages and heightened tensions.
