Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts 172 Drones in Russian Night Attack

In the early hours of April 30, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted 172 drones launched by Russian military forces. The attacks involved a ballistic missile strike and 32 assault drones targeting various locations across Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the assault began at 6:00 PM on April 29, with Russian forces firing an Iskander-M ballistic missile from the Rostov region. The attack also included 206 assault drones, primarily of the Shahed type, alongside other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from multiple directions, including Kursk, Bryansk, and Crimea.

To counter the assault, Ukraine deployed its aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. These efforts were instrumental in mitigating the impact of the attack.

  • As of 8:00 AM, preliminary reports indicated that the air defense had successfully intercepted or neutralized 172 drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas, across the northern, southern, western, and eastern regions of the country.
  • Additionally, a ballistic missile strike and 32 assault drones were confirmed to have hit 22 locations, with debris falling in 9 areas.

The air assault is ongoing, with authorities warning that several drones remain active in the airspace.
