A Ukrainian court has reached a verdict in a case involving the embezzlement of state property, with the former director of a state agency admitting guilt and agreeing to a plea deal with prosecutors.
The case centers on the misappropriation of 20 UTD-20 engines, valued at over 5.7 million UAH, from the State Reserve Agency of Ukraine. The court found the individual guilty of committing a crime under part 5 of Article 191 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to abuse of office by a group of individuals.
As part of the plea agreement, the former director has been sentenced to eight years in prison, alongside a prohibition on holding certain positions in state-owned enterprises where government ownership exceeds 50%. Additionally, the court ordered the confiscation of part of his assets.
However, the court has suspended the execution of the main sentence, allowing the individual to serve the sentence under probation. Furthermore, as part of the agreement, the former director is required to compensate for the damages caused and transfer 12 million UAH to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the charity fund “Return Alive.”
